investing in nevada's rangelands

These projects improve the efficiency of the limited water on this large permit. Permittees are able to haul less water and have fewer stressful emergency repairs. These projects allow the permittees to better utilize the range and allow them to focus their efforts on remaining infrastructure projects that need attention.
Rattlesnake Well Solar Pump:
This shallow well needed a new pump, controller and solar PV array. The pipeline from the well to the troughs had rusted through. The concrete trough was undersized and prone to freezing. BLM supplied a storage tank, N3 reimbursed the pump. The permittee put in two tire troughs and all new pipeline. The tank has a firehose connection to fill a firefighter truck.
Pepper Spring Buried Pressure Control Tank:
There is a 12 mile pipeline coming from Pepper Spring and dropping down to Garfield Flat before climbing out of the valley. This pipeline fills 10 water troughs and needed a lot of repairs. As the breaks and leaks were fixed it allowed the water to flow down to the valley and build up high pressure. The permittees were experiencing pipeline failure and pressures over 240psi. With BLM's permission they were able to put in a buried tank halfway down the slope from the spring to the valley. The water exits the pipeline into the tank and then enters the pipeline again through the tank outlet. This reset the water pressure to zero then allowed it to build up enough to pressure to climb out of the flat to the north without breaking pipes and fittings.
Heat Wells for Tire Troughs:
Installing tire troughs and vertical culverts sealed on the bottom and buried 10' in the ground utilizes the natural heat from the earth at that depth and reduces the amount of ice that forms in cold weather.
